(GREENSBORO, NC) On Friday, February 22, 2019 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm GreenHill is hosting Art on the Rocks | Some Like it Hot, a gallery party with art-filled fun, food and cocktails (mocktails) with a kick, and a scavenger hunt with enticing prizes.  The evening with feature live music by Greensboro’s own soulful singer, J.Timber, and a live drawing demonstration by local artist, Raman Bhardwaj.

Jonathan “J.Timber” Timber is one of Greensboro’s finest musicians/songwriters.  J. Timber’s soulful voice carries through the air like a slow moving molasses effortlessly carried by the light strumming sounds of the guitar. His style comes from a diverse background of influences; Motown Jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Hip Hop and R&B, and most notably Rock.  J. Timber and Joel Henry (another Greensboro musician), also known as Good Watts, can be found at venues all over the city.

Raman is a local freelance illustrator working professionally for over 15 years.  Originally from India, Raman moved to Greensboro to pursue his career in art.  Raman works in a variety of art forms such as illustration, murals, painting, and exploring sculpture.  His aesthetics focuses mainly on the human form as a source for inspiration, but the final product we see is a beautiful and organic abstraction.

This event will be GreenHill’s second Art on the Rocks gallery party. An idea that came from Lindsay DeBlasio, Art Educator at GreenHill , as an opportunity to engage a new group of people and help raise money and awareness around North Carolina art and artists. DeBlasio says, “I have always enjoyed events in gallery spaces, and Art on the Rocks is something very different and unique. People are moving around the gallery, looking at art, sharing laughs and invested in conversation.  The artist demonstrations add to the level of uniqueness.  It provides an opportunity for guests to not just see the final product of art, but engage in conversation with an artist and (sometimes participate in) the making process.”

Guests are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt which will include a search-and-find for artworks in the Two Artists | One Space exhibition, featuring works by Dane Winkler and Cathy McLaurin.  DeBlasio explains, “It is a fun way to bring out your inner child, tease your brain a little, engage with art, and strike up conversation with complete strangers. I have always loved word puzzles, riddles, strategy games, and scavenger hunts.  Coming up with riddles, play-on-words, and other interesting approaches challenges me in a way that gets me more involved with the works on display at GreenHill, and I am happy to share that excitement with participants. And, of course all the hard work put into decoding the riddles is rewarded!”

Prizes include two tickets to GreenHill’s annual Collector’s Choice event for the first place winner, second place will receive two seats to any workshop of their choice, and a third place prize of a 10% discount coupon to be redeemed in GreenHill’s shop.

The proceeds from the event benefit the art and education programs of GreenHill. Laura Way, GreenHill’s Executive
Director says, “On the Rocks is a great way to bring people into our space and support artist programs such as pop-up residencies, artist talks, and other multidisciplinary programs.” Tickets include a free drink ticket, appetizers, and a sampling of three cocktails.  Tickets are $20/person in advance and $25/person at the door. $18/Student + Members.
