On February 8, 1957, a local newspaper article detailed plans for a $28,000 nature center designed as a 38x80 foot building at Country Park. On October 5 of that same year, the Greensboro Junior Museum, now known as the Greensboro Science Center (GSC), opened its doors for the very first time. Since those humble beginnings, the GSC has gone through numerous expansions and renovations, resulting in a 22-acre destination for science education. And it's just the beginning!
Thanks to our members, donors, voters and advocates, the GSC has been able to continue growing and consistently bringing amazing educational experiences to the people of Greensboro and beyond.
During the month of October, the GSC encourages the public to use #GSO60 to post an old photo, a special memory or a creative piece of art inspired by the Greensboro Science Center. Valid entries shared on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter will enter the participant into a drawing for a special prize! Additionally, visitors are invited to stop by the GSC to check out our memory tree exhibit, featuring photos and artifacts from GSC's history, or our video montage of photos from our past.
The GSC is bringing back Pumpkin Palooza on Saturday, October 21 from 11:00am - 2:00pm! Thanks to a generous donation of pumpkins and tasty treats from our friends at The Fresh Market, GSC visitors will have the opportunity to celebrate the season with snacks, giveaways and a variety of family friendly crafts and games. The Center's animals will get in on the fall fun too with pumpkin-themed enrichment activities. Since it's a particularly significant year for the GSC, there will be a special addition to this year's Palooza - a GSC 60th anniversary table! There, guests can enter to win some amazing prizes as well as enjoy a slice of anniversary cake (while it lasts).
Costumes are encouraged, but no masks, please. Pumpkin Palooza activities are included with general admission to the Greensboro Science Center. General admission is $13.50 for adults ages 14-64, $12.50 for children ages 3-13, and $12.50 for seniors ages 65+. Children 2 and under as well as Greensboro Science Center Members are free.
